our story
Kindred Style Co
I never set out to start a brand. I set out to solve a problem that kept happening in my own house, over and over, until I finally got tired of it.
Here's the scene: it's a Saturday morning, we're getting ready to go somewhere as a family — maybe brunch, maybe just a walk around the neighborhood — and it's chaos in the best and worst way. I'm digging through my closet for something that actually feels like me. My partner's doing the same thing on the other side of the room. The kids are half-dressed and asking for help with something. And somewhere in the middle of all that, our dog is sitting by the door, and our cat is watching from the windowsill, both of them completely left out of the moment we were all supposedly getting ready for together.
Every time, I'd think: why does "getting ready as a family" only ever include the humans?
That question sat with me for a long time. I looked around for a brand that actually treated the whole household as one unit — not just clothes for adults with a separate kids' section tacked on, not just pet accessories sold somewhere completely different from human fashion — and I couldn't find one that felt right. Everything was fragmented. You'd buy your outfit from one place, your kid's outfit from another, a collar for the dog from some pet superstore, and never once would any of it feel like it belonged to the same story.
So I decided to build it myself. Right here in California, with a simple goal: make one place where style includes everyone in the family — women, men, kids, and yes, the dog and the cat too.
That's where the name Kindred Style Co comes from. Kindred means connected, alike, bound together by more than just living under the same roof. It's the word I kept coming back to, because it captures exactly what I wanted this brand to feel like: not just a store, but a reflection of what makes a family a family — the way we show up for each other, dress up for each other, and yes, sometimes match with each other.
We started with the basics: clothing for women, men, and kids that doesn't feel generic, jewelry that actually means something when you put it on, and perfume that becomes the scent people associate with you. And from day one, style for the dog and the cat was never an afterthought — it was the whole point. Because what's the use of a "family style" brand that leaves out two members of the family?
We're still a small, growing brand. Every new product we add gets run through the same filter: does this make a family — the two-legged and four-legged members alike — feel a little more put-together, a little more them? If the answer's yes, it earns a place in the Kindred lineup. If not, we pass.
I started this because I was tired of my dog and cat getting left out of the picture, literally and figuratively. I'm building it because I think a lot of other families feel exactly the same way, even if they've never quite put it into words before.
So thank you for being here, for reading this far, and for considering Kindred Style Co as part of your family's story. Whether it's a new outfit, a signature scent, a piece of jewelry, or something special for the pets who follow you around the house all day — I hope it makes getting ready together feel like what it should be: easy, warm, and complete.
